(DSP) Toolkit

The Disability Support Pension (‘DSP’) Toolkit is a resource for medical practitioners, social and community workers who want to help their clients obtain evidence for their DSP application.

The toolkit has two parts, the information about the application and the processes (‘the kit’) available here and the individual ‘shells’ (letters) available in ‘impairment table order’ (e.g. Table 1 mild, Table 1 Moderate, Table 1 Severe, Table 2 mild etc) below.

SSRV developed the DSP Toolkit as a resource to be used in conjunction with a training session provided by SSRV staff. The training sessions aim to educate workers about the medical evidence required for a successful DSP claim. The training sessions share SSRV’s knowledge of social security law and instruct on how to use the DSP Toolkit to help clients obtain medical evidence for their DSP applications.

If you are a Victorian medical practitioner, social worker or community organisation and are interested in having SSRV conduct a training session at your workplace, please email us at info(at) ssrv.org.au call us on (03) 9481 0299.

Please note that all enquiries from interstate will be referred to the relevant specialist social security rights organisation in that state or territory.

Acknowledgements

The DSP Toolkit was developed by John Berrill, Principal at Berrill & Watson Lawyers, as a pro bono project for SSRV. John’s commitment and passion for this project is commendable and much appreciated. The Toolkit was developed in consultation with members of disability, legal, medical, community and academic organisations. We thank them for their expert contributions.

Disclaimer

The information contained in the Toolkit relates to the evidentiary burden required for eligibility for the DSP. It does not provide broader information about the DSP or the application process. For a broader understanding of government legislation, regulations, policy, case law and administrative procedures relating to the DSP, we recommend contacting Centrelink or calling SSRV for free advice. The information contained in this Toolkit is not intended as a substitute for anything in writing or orally stated by Centrelink or the Commonwealth Government.

While care has been taken to ensure the accuracy of the information contained in the Toolkit, social security law is complex and changes often. Toolkit users should always check the date of publication and check official government sources for recent changes to the law. In the case of any inconsistencies of information, users of the Toolkit should defer to official government information.

The circumstances of people applying for the DSP can vary a great deal. It may be appropriate to obtain legal advice specific to these circumstances.

DSP Toolkit users agree that that they utilise the Toolkit at their own risk. SSRV Inc. takes no responsibility for any loss suffered by any person or organisation relying upon anything within the Toolkit.
